Garbage Collection Map

Garbage is collected in the village every day; pick-up depends on your address.  The Village of Lyons collects garbage and recycling. Please call the Village directly with any questions. Please keep these general rules in mind when putting out your trash:

All garbage and refuse must be stored within authorized garbage containers and placed at the curb or alley for pick-up by 7:00 a.m. on garbage day. Garbage cannot be put out for collection any sooner than the day before garbage day. In addition, all containers are to be removed back to the property on collection day, and they cannot be stored in the front yard space.

One large item per week (such as furniture, etc.) is allowed.  For appliances, notify Groot the day before your scheduled pick-up.  There are per item stickers available for purchase at Village Hall for $1.35 for any item over the allotment.

Yard waste is collected from April 1st through December 15 (or first snowfall).  All yard waste must be in paper yard waste bags, available for purchase at many local stores. While there is no limit to the number of bags accepted, the weight of each should not exceed 50 pounds.

Special arrangements must be made with Groot for the collection of excess garbage, appliances, and construction materials.

If for some reason your garbage does not get  picked up before 5:00 p.m. on your service day, contact the Village Hall  and the problem will be resolved.

Garbage Billing

Your garbage collection and disposal charges vary on the size of garbage toter you choose.  The lowest rate available is for a 35 gallon toter that the resident supplies themselves.  The cost is $28.08 for a two month period.  Please note:  Before purchasing a toter, verify that it is 35 gallons.  Any other size will NOT be picked up by the garbage company.

The other two options available are 65 gallon and 95 gallon toters that can only be purchased from Village Hall.  The bi-monthly fees are $37.36 for a 65 gallon and $44.62 for a 95 gallon.  These prices accumulate according to the number of toters you use.  These toters are Village of Lyons property and are to remain at the specific property for which it is purchased at all times.  Broken 65 gallon or 95 gallon Village toters can be replaced at no charge.  Please contact the Village Hall for additional details.

  • If you are interested in upgrading from your own 35 gallon toter, there is a one-time non refundable fee involved.  Please contact Village Hall for further information.

Recycling is important not only for the environment, but for your pocketbooks as well. When milk cartons, paper, cardboard, and other recyclables get tossed in the trash, it goes to a landfill where a disposal fee is charged. Using your recycling bin keeps our disposal cost down and provides for a cleaner environment. All residential customers are required by ordinance to recycle, but it takes very little effort. Bins are also free to one- and two-family residences.  Broken recycling containers can be replaced at no charge.  Please contact the Village Hall for additional details.
